Skrenyi Festival of North East (16 Days / 15 Nights)

Northeast of India... the mystic region, is the most bio - diverse regions of the world. A home to the beautiful landscapes, ancient temples, rich culture, mystical tribes and an array of flora and fauna, all these and more is what the Northeast region of India has to offer. The tribes here celebrate smallest of the occasions in the most vibrant ways, with songs and dance and other colourful activities. To witness one such festival is an opportunity one should not miss on. The festival dates change according to the Lunar Calendar. Generally it falls in the month of February.

Day 1: Kolkata

Kolkata, capital of West Bengal is a nerve centre of intellectual and human values where many modern movements began in literature, art, cinema, theatre, science, politics and industry.Full day city tour visiting Howrah Bridge - landmark that denotes the city of joy. This hanging bridge is an architectural marvel of the country. The recently built Vidyasagar Setu, another architectural marvel, connects both the banks of the Hooghly River, onto Victoria Memorial built of White Marble. It was opened by Prince of Wales in 1924 and has a statue of Queen Victoria, with other innumerous exhibits Indian Museum and drive past Dalhousie Square, St. Paul's Cathedral, National Library, Shaheed Minar, Eden Garden, Fort William and drive past city centre.Optional visit to Mother Teresa's Home of Charity.

Day 3: Kolkata - Dibrugarh

Transfer to airport to leave by air for Dibrugarh.Arrive and transfer to Hotel Little Palace.Evening local sightseeing.Overnight at Dibrugarh.

Morning Drive to Mon (180Kms 8hrs), the headquarter of the Konyak tribe, who wear traditional dresses with feathered headgear and have tattoed faces. Enroute visit Wakching, a typical Konyak tribal village. Overnight at Mon.

Shangnyu village, is ruled by the chief Angh and is a prominent village in Mon district. There is a wonderful wooden monument measuring 8 feet in height and 12 feet in breadth - believed to be constructed by heavenly angles. Human beings and other creatures are carved on this monument. Memorial stones are also found in front of the Angh's Palace. History records that good and friendly relationship existed between the Shangnyu and the Ahom Kings of Assam. Shangnyu Angh use to collect taxes from all the villages under his domain-extending from Sibsagar in Assam to the Wanchos in Arunachal.After returning from Shangnyu village visit Mon Village, here too you can find tattooed Konyaks.Post lunch drive to Chui Village, situated about 8kms from the district headquarters of Mon. Chui village still retains its old world charm. One can see the Angh's mansion and other Houses constructed in the true Konyak tradition with palm leaves roofing and the main pillars jutting out. Overnight at Mon.

Morning drive to Tuensang (150kms 8hrs), the homeland of Chang Naga. Overnight at Circuit House, Tuensang.

Day 8: Tuensang - Noklak - Tuensang

Full day excursion to Noklak to see Khiamniungan tribe.

Day 9: Tuensang - Mokokchung

After breakfast drive to Mokokchung (115kms 6hrs drive). This picturesque town is the cultural center of the Ao tribes. The Ao Nagas are famous for their colourful dances. Overnight at Tourist lodge, Ungama Village.

Morning excursion to Mopungchukit or Chuchuyimlang village to see Ao Naga. Overnight at Mokochung.

Day 11: Mokokchung - Wokha

After Breakfast drive to Wokha (80km 4hrs drive). Wokha literally means census. There are villages on Hilltops, which at once attract your attention. There are monoliths (Longzu) erected by their rich ancestors to exhibit their status. Lothas are known for their colourful dances and songs particularly during the Shanta, Tokhu Emong and Pikhuchak which are their main festivals. The former takes place on the 7 November every year. Opvuram and Longpensu are the must buy treasured social shawls for women and men, respectively. Overnight at Wokha.

Day 12: Wokha - Tuphema

Drive to Tuphema village (60km, 4hrs) to attend the Sekrenyi festival. Overnight Tourist Lodge, Tuphema.

Full day attend the festival. Overnight at Tuphema.The Angami tribe celebrates the Sekrenyi Festival in the month of February. It normally falls on the 25th day of the Angami month "kezei". The ten-day festival is also called Phousanyi by the Angamis. Sekrenyi, the festival of the Angami Nagas, organized by Tuophema village, is a festival of purification and revolves around the rituals and ceremonies of clearing the village pond. It starts with all men, young and old going to the village pond, a night vigil is kept by the youths of the village. The best part of the festival is 'Thekra hie' on this day all the young men and women of the village sit together and sing traditional songs over mugs of rice and plates of meat.

Day 15: Tuphema - Kohima

Drive to Kohima (42kms). Afternoon local sightseeing. Overnight at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.

Day 16: Kohima - Dimapur - Kolkata

Morning transfer to Dimapur (70kms) to connect flight to Kolkata.Kolkata Arrive and Transfer to International Airport to Fly back home Onward destination.
