On the northern tip of the state of Uttar Pradesh is this small town of Gorakhpur, an important base for the people traveling by road to Nepal from India. Named after the great saint Baba Gorakhnath, the quaint little town has a huge temple dedicated to the saint. The birthplace of the great Lord Buddha on the other side of the border in Lumbini is just about 100 kms from Gorakhpur. It is an important place for the Buddhist pilgrims as it joins the main places like Varanasi (around 212 kms) and Kushinagar (67 kms) thus becoming the base to enter Nepal completing the whole Buddhist sector.
