Description:
As the name goes, Lohagarh or the iron fort was actually an invincible frot of the past. The fort conceived by Maharaja Surajmal, founder of Bharatpur, was built in the 18th century in the heart of the Jungle. The massive structure has survived many attacks by the British. There are three palaces inside the fort, Kishori Mahal, Kothi khas and the Mahal khas worth a visit.
Out of the eight imposing towers of the fort, few still stand high. Most important amongst them are the Jawahar and the Fateh burj, which were built by King Surajmal to commemorate his victories over the Mughals and the British respectively. The coronation ceremony of the Jat rulers of Bharatpur was also held at the Jawahar Burj.
