Nearly 100 kms from Jodhpur on the Jodhpur - Bikaner highway, is the splendid fort of Khimsar right at the midway of these two destinations. This 16th century Fort was constructed by Rao Karamsinhji. Built in utter solitude of the sand dunes, this magnificent structure creates an awe-inspiring effect on a traveler traveling between Jodhpur and Bikaner. Today although the fort has been converted in to a heritage Hotel property, the 20th direct descendant of the owners still reside in the fort. The fort is the best place to relive the past, the splendour and the grandeur of the royalties who built this fort and lived here.
The fort draws tourist from all over the world and especially during the annual Nagaur cattle fair, which has a vibrantly decorated cattle on display.
